2020
To be competitive in a post COVID world, organizations must step more boldly into the digital era. We are realizing that our approach to technology and how we use it needs to change to meet the challenges of working more remotely than we have in the past. There are so many ways in which technology has provided new capabilities. Tech is rapidly driving new expectations from the users we serve. We realize we must adjust to meet these new realities, to take advantage of available technology, and to meet these advanced expectations. Where and how do we need to invest so that we can transform gracefully?
I was honored to be invited to speak at the 2020 Triad Technology Conference in July and allowed to select my topic. The choice was easy for me. Even before COVID, I had been a proponent of teaching people to use visual thinking skills when evaluating and designing for simple and complex systems. 20 years of experience in the design field has shown me that visuals almost always communicate meaning with a clarity and efficiency that words cannot "A picture is worth a thousand words" has persisted as an adage in multiple languages for the simple reason that it has proven to be true.
This conference provided an opportunity for me to talk about how I have solved problems with design and dev teams and to share a few of the lessons I have learned along the way. If you can forgive a few awkward pauses related to using new technology for the first time and problems caused by manipulating a delayed mouse projected on a screen 10 feet from my podium, I invite you to watch the presentation at left or you can view on YouTube.
